Being Grateful

What comes to mind when you read or hear the word grateful? For me it is:

  • Having my family, my faith, my friends, my job, my home, reliable transportation, enough food to eat and good health.

  • An attitude that makes a person more enjoyable to be around

  • Not taking things for granted

  • Knowing that I work at a job where I can share acts of gratitude

What if you were to live each day being grateful for one thing? What if every time someone asked you 'How are you' you replied with the words 'I am grateful'?

As we near the end of 2020 many of us are prone to think about what an unsettling year we have just lived through. We have no idea that 2021 will be any better we just hope that is the case. But maybe we can be grateful for the fact we were granted this day in the first place.

Open Hands Midway has had a year in which we can truly say we are grateful. What are we grateful for?

  • Donors who supported our annual golf event even though we were not able to actually hold it due to COVID-19

  • Donors who supported our Give to the Max day campaign to raise funds for the expansion of our food shelf

  • Faithful volunteers who come and serve each week (even in the midst of a pandemic)

  • Our chef who makes WONDERFUL meals that guests share their appreciation for

  • A new entry door along with ADA compliant push button

  • A new concrete ramp at our entryway with a smooth transition directly into the building

  • A new dumpster pad with fenced enclosure

  • A generous donor who provided funding for us to purchase a NEW convection oven

  • Being able to partner with M Health Fairview to offer FREE flu shots in October

  • Being the recipients of several grants throughout 2020

  • Our corporate and church partners who have supported our mission throughout the year with generous financial gifts

  • ...and so much more.

Forgive us if you did something or gave something of significance to us in 2020. We could not possibly list everything and everyone. We are GRATEFUL!

On behalf my Board of Directors and our Chef let me wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year and the hope that you will be grateful for something now and in the coming year, just sayin'...
